The Barksdale Air Force Base is situated on over 22,000 acres of land in NW Louisiana where once there were blooming cotton fields.  This key Air Combat Command Base has served the Ark-La-Tex area for over 68 years providing a major source of revenue and employment in the region.  As the headquarters of the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force, Barksdale plays a pivotal role in providing a large part of the nation’s deterrent force.    Barksdale is also home to the 2nd Bomb Wing, the Eighth Air Force Museum that maintains the historical aircraft and artifacts that grace the base and the Air Force Reserve’s 917th Wing.

This military base was dedicated to Lt. Eugene Hoy Barksdale on February 2, 1933.  Over its long history, this base has been home to many air commands and hosted events such as the Strategic Air Command Bombing and Navigation Competition awards symposium and space shuttle Columbia stops on its way back to Cape Kennedy.  The courageous military personnel housed on this base have served in both combat and peace missions over the years and continue to serve our country today.
